Therapy sessions are fun, engaging, and grounded in current best practices in child psychology. The goal is to create a safe, supportive space where your child feels heard, accepted, and motivated to learn new skills whether that’s in our clinic, at their school or kinder, or via telehealth.

The process begins with an initial intake session to get to know your child, understand your goals, and develop a therapy plan together. Ongoing sessions run for 45 minutes and may involve individual child sessions, parent coaching, or a mix of both.

School & Kinder-Based Therapy
It's not always easy to fit therapy into a busy family schedule. That’s why abc Psychology Services offers therapy sessions at your child’s school, kinder, or daycare, providing support where it’s most needed, without disrupting your day.

Our school and kinder-based therapy sessions are delivered 1:1, just like in-clinic sessions. Your child will have time and space to explore their feelings, build skills, and work towards their therapy goals in a safe and familiar environment.
These sessions are suitable for children of all ages and support needs, not just those struggling at school. We often work with children on:

Emotional regulation and coping strategies
Anxiety and mood
Social thinking and friendships
Attention, impulse control and executive functioning
Self-esteem and resilience
Support related to autism, ADHD, or neurodivergent identity

Therapy sessions take place during school hours, in collaboration with educators and support staff. These sessions may include:
1:1 time with your child in a quiet space
Observation and modelling during classroom or play routines
Strategies and recommendations for teachers
Ongoing communication with families to track progress

Therapy for NDIS Participants
We are a registered NDIS provider and deliver in clinic telehealth and school-based therapy. We can work with your plan manager or support coordinator to ensure sessions are aligned with your goals and budget. Travel fees apply and are charged in line with the NDIS Pricing Arrangements. If you’re unsure how this applies to your plan or budget, we’re happy to talk it through and provide a clear cost estimate before getting started.

Medicare Rebates for Therapy
Eligible clients may access Medicare rebates for therapy sessions through a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP). These rebates help reduce the out-of-pocket cost of psychological support for your child and family. Starting 1 July 2025 Medicare rebates increase by 2.4%. with a rebate of $ 98.95 per session.

A Mental Health Treatment Plan can be provided by your GP, paediatrician, or psychiatrist. The provider can refer your child for up to six sessions initially. After these sessions, a review must be conducted by the GP to assess progress and determine if additional sessions (up to four more) are necessary
How to Obtain a Mental Health Care Plan:
-
Make an Appointment: Schedule a visit with your GP and inform them that the appointment is for a mental health treatment plan.
-
Discuss Symptoms: During the appointment, discuss your child's mental health concerns and symptoms with your GP.
-
Plan Creation: Your GP will work with you to create the MHCP for your child, detailing treatment options and goals.
